About

Hi I'm Zack also known as Geography Geek on YouTube!

In the summer of 2018 I combined two of my passions, maps and exploring US National Parks, into an online map shop. For the first few years it was called Zack’s Map Shop. In the beginning I sold almost exclusively national park maps that I had created but the maps soon expanded to other places and historic prints as well, not just my original designs.

In August of that year I began teaching 8th Grade Global Geography & Cultures. When Covid-19 brought schools online I started making YouTube videos to better engage my students. The channel grew faster than I had anticipated and I soon began making videos for a wider audience not just students. I eventually combined the channel with my online map shop under one name “Geography Geek”. In 2022 I left my teaching job to take YouTube and my map business full-time.

Outside of Geography Geek I like to give talks about old maps around my hometown of Martinsville, VA. Like most people reading this I also enjoy traveling. I have visited 46 of 50 states but at the moment only 9 countries outside of the United States. I also work part time as a Civil Affairs Specialist in the US Army Reserves where I again get to utilize my passion for geography.

Anyway, thank you for stopping by and thank you for supporting me, my channel, and this online shop! I love my job and it wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for all my viewers and customers. If you have any questions or just want to reach out you can contact me at. - zack@thegeographygeek.com
